Team Pink

SSAGO has been working on becoming a charity for a long time, and we finally have an exciting update for you. SSAGO has registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation!
As many will remember, we have had numerous general meetings amending the constitution to prepare us for becoming a charity. We have finally achieved this goal and have a CIO registered under “Student Scout and Guide Organisation”!
What is a CIO and why are we becoming one?
A CIO is a charitable incorporated organisation which is one of the options for a charity’s structure. We have chosen to become a CIO as SSAGO itself will be a legal entity and therefore can enter into contracts and be liable for fulfilling them. This removes the liability from our volunteers and ensures everyone can volunteer with more assurance they are covered by SSAGO.
We will also be using SSAGO’s charitable status (and shiny new charity number) to get discounts on a number of pre-existing services that we use. Previously, we have paid full price since we were not registered so this should save SSAGO some money!
What does this actually mean?
SSAGO is currently run as an unregistered charitable organisation and will continue to do so for the near future. In other words, nothing will be changing for now!
We have set up the legal entity for us to transfer over to when we are ready, and this entity will remain empty and dormant with only Team Pink as trustees until we vote to transfer. In the meantime, we will be working on getting the necessary infrastructure up and running so we can transfer without any issues.
What are we doing now?
Our main task at the moment is to set up bank accounts for the CIO. SSAGO’s current bank accounts are for the unregistered organisation and we will not be able to continue using them once we transfer. Therefore, we are looking at our options for different bank accounts and will set up accounts with the bank that is best for SSAGO.
We are also working on other smaller tasks, such as notifying Scouts and Girlguiding that this has happened, renewing our agreements with each to cover the CIO, obtaining insurance for the CIO and much more.
This is a huge milestone for SSAGO and we’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make this possible over the years! We are really excited about what this means for the future of SSAGO and will keep everyone updated as we progress.
